About us

A refugee-led organisation, in Yaoundé since 2020.

BRIGHT stands for a simple idea: the people affected by our work should help shape it. Nothing for us without us.

Our vision

A world where every person, regardless of displacement, disability or circumstances, can live with dignity, access education and opportunities, and build an independent and fulfilling life in peaceful, inclusive communities and a healthy environment.

Our mission

Refugee-led, BRIGHT helps displaced and vulnerable people in Cameroon take charge of their lives:

  • Educate: from school to university;
  • Train: job, tech and creative skills;
  • Care: counselling after trauma;
  • Include: training for people with special needs;
  • Unite: tennis and community sport;
  • Protect: local environmental action.

Who we serve

Refugees, internally displaced people, migrants, asylum seekers, orphans and abandoned children, older people and persons with special needs.

Our founder

Why Liliane Uwase built BRIGHT.

Liliane Uwase was a refugee for more than 25 years, because of the genocide in Rwanda; her family moved to Cameroon during that period. Displacement taught her why dignity, opportunity and belonging matter, and why the people affected by BRIGHT's work should help shape it.

In 2020 she founded BRIGHT Association in Yaoundé. She has spent six years building organisations for displaced people: Communications Manager at the African Refugee Women-Led Network (ARWNET), Programme Coordinator at Mentors Without Borders (2021 to 2022), and delegate at the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review in Geneva in 2025. She has been an Amahoro Coalition Fellow since 2025, and is studying for a second bachelor's degree, in computer science.

Nothing for us without us.
